Iron and Steel Plants in India

India ranks second in the production of steel in the world.

The three units which was established by HSL (Hindusthan & Steel Limited) during the period of second five year (1959) - Bhilai, Rourkela, Durgapur.

1.   TISCO (1907) 
  • The first Iron and Steel company was started at Jamshedpur (Jharkhand)
  • Largest private sector iron and steel plant.
2. Visewsarayya(1923)–Bhadravathi (Karnataka)
  • First iron and steel plant in south India

3.   Bhilai (1959)- Durg (Chattisgarh)
  • Established in collaboration with Russia 

4.   Rourkela (1959)-Sundargarh (Odisha)
  • Established in collaboration with Germany
5. Durgapur(1959)-West Bengal
  • Established in collaboration with United Kingdom
6.   Bokaro (1964)- Jharkhand
  • Established in collaboration with Russia 
7.   Salem Steel Plant-Tamil Nadu

8.   Visakhapattanam-Andra Pradesh

9.   Vijaya Nagar-Karnataka

10.   Dhitri-Paradwip (Odisha)

11.  The Indian Iron & Steel Company (IISCO)
  • First public sector iron and steel company
  • Kulti, Burnapur, Hirapur (West Bengal)

12. Dolvi- Ratnagiri (Maharastra)
